A Night at Camp Raven Knob - with Scouting America

On a recent evening, Haystack Homestead Traveling Farm Experiences packed up the trailer and headed to Camp Raven Knob for a very special event with Scouting America.
We brought along a mix of some of our favorite farm friends—our steer (Timmy), playful goats and sheep, friendly bunnies, and our two favorite alpacas: Aspen & Scarlet. Our Farm Corral Experience is always a hit, but what made this night truly special wasn’t just the animals—it was the people.

Teamwork That Moved Mountains (Well… a Hill!)
When we arrived at Camp Raven Knob, our setup area was quite a hike from where our livestock trailer could park. That meant every corral panel, bin of feed, and supply needed to be carried up a long hill before we could even begin setting up.
Without hesitation, a group of energetic and cheerful Scouts volunteered to help. Together, we trekked up that hill trip, and before we knew it, the farm corral was ready to welcome visitors. It was truly inspiring to see these young people step up with such positive attitudes.

Celebrating Service: The Order of the Arrow
This evening wasn’t just another gathering—it was part of an event connected to the Order of the Arrow (OA), Scouting America’s National Honor Society.
The OA recognizes Scouts and leaders who live out the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law every day, demonstrating leadership, cheerful service, and dedication to their communities. Members often wear a white sash marked with a red arrow, a symbol of their commitment to serving others and building a better world.

Joy, Curiosity, and Connection
Once the corral was open, Scouts and leaders had the chance to meet and interact with our animals up close. We loved seeing their curiosity and excitement—from asking thoughtful questions about the animals to sharing stories about the animals they have owned – as well as sharing lots of information about Scouting America. These moments are what our Traveling Farm Experiences are all about: building connections, not only between people and animals, but also among communities

We appreciated the opportunity to be a small part of this Scouting America event.
Gratitude From the Farm
To everyone at Camp Raven Knob and Scouting America: thank you for inviting us to be part of your evening. Your kindness, your willingness to pitch in, your enthusiasm, and your shared stories made this night unforgettable.
And to the Scouts of the Order of the Arrow, congratulations on your dedication to service and leadership - we’re inspired by your example and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate alongside you
