Just peckin' around...

This is Chuck with some of his 'ladies'. Chuck is not a nice guy. He is loud and obnoxious. He tries to control everything and everyone. And whenever I see him moving about the pasture he's running, as though he's late for a really important appointment.
We have no idea about Chuck's life prior to when he moved to Haystack Homestead. We just woke up one morning and he was here. We thought he'd go back home (wherever that is) since we made zero effort to welcome him. We don't need a rooster. And Chuck is actually beyond 'not a nice guy'. He's beyond loud and obnoxious and controlling. Chuck is straight up threatening. If chickens had a Mafia - he'd be the godfather. But, in spite of our not rolling out the welcome mat, he just never left.
He and I have 'altercations' at times. I've taken to carrying a wiffle bat through the pasture when I suspect that he may think he has reason to tangle with me. That USUALLY earns me some respect. But, with Chuck, you just never know. Sometimes when he follows me around making threatening sounds I yell back at him. I tell him things like he could be dinner if he's not careful. ... But, truth is I kinda like Chuck. He's a real 'character' - but I'd miss him if he moved.
